On Campus:

Day of Play*

WCU SPSEA hosted approximately 140 students from Mastery Charter School in Philadelphia, PA. These students had the opportunity to experience A Day in the Life of a West Chester University Student with a tour of campus which included lunch in the Dining Hall. 

 

During their tour, the students joined our members in Day of Play. Day of Play encouraged the visiting students as well as WCU faculty and Staff to stop and Play with us.

One World Futbol Pretzel Sales*

The Play Special Interest Group held two fundraisers for the One World Play Project which donates indestructable futbols (soccer balls) by means of a Project Called One World Futbol. These futbols are donated to children from all over the world who do not have the opportunity to play. 

 

"Play is in our DNA—a need as important as food, medicine and shelter. It’s an intrinsic part of our lives, regardless of geography or culture, and through play we become stronger individuals, build better communities and create a more positive future."

 

WCU SPSEA students sold soft pretzels to raise funds for One World Futbols.

Holiday Cards for Safe Harbor

During our December General Meeting, 25 of our members designed holiday and new years cards for the women of Safe Harbor. 

 

"Safe Harbor is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to provide shelter, food and access to support services in a structured environment for homeless single men and homeless single women in Chester County."

Play SIG Sweet Sales*

The Play Special Interest Group held two Sweet Sales. The proceeds of this fundraiser go to a school in Delaware County in need of toys for outdoor recess including chalk, hulahoops, and balls.

Martin Luther King Day of Service:

Blanket Making 

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 5 of our members participated in blanket making as a community service opportunity on campus with approximately 25 other student organizations. The blankets made were donated to Chester County Hospital's NICU and Pediatrics Department, A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital, and Fleece for Keeps. This event was coordinated by the Literacy SIG Chair, Kayla Kishbaugh.

Second Annual Melissa Christie Art with a Heart Auction

The National Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)  hosted the Second Annual Melissa Christie Art with a Heart Event! This event is a silent art auction auctioning children's art that was created with the prompt "how I like helping others" in mind. Among art and good company, the Art with a Heart event will include raffles and free music, entertainment, games, crafts, food and so much more!! All proceeds will go towards funding individual children at the Christian Caribbean Home for the Deaf giving children in Jamaica access to education, religion, shelter, and much more. SPSEA's WCU Chapter provided volunteer assistance and children's artwork.  We held 3 craft tables and play stations for children, helped with set up, as well as donated beautiful children's artwork for an amazing cause.
