Guest Speaker from WCAEA

During the month of October, a representative from the West Chester Area Ecucation Association (WCAEA) visited an executive board meeting to discuss the upcoming elections and how each candidate will effect public education. The representative encouraged us to have members register to vote and to distribute campaign materials to students and faculty on campus. WCAEA also sent a member to the Southeast Region Conference to discuss membership and the importance of voting for the state of Pennsylvania.

Degrees Not Debt

Degrees Not Debt is a national campaign for Congress to make college more affordable. The campaign promotes enhancing federal loan forgiveness for those who choose careers in public service, including teachers, increasing need based federal aid, and allowing federal loans to be refinanced when interest rates decline instead of balancing the budget on the backs of college students.

At both our November General Meeting and the Southeast Region Conference, our PACE chair Emily Thornton promoted the campaign and had participants sign a petition for Degrees Not Debt. Participants also joined the Gloabl Chalk Campaign which is explained below.

"All americans, no matter what their background, deserve a fair shot at higher educaton."

Global Chalk Campaign

The Global Chalk Campaign was launched by the Central Asia Institue. The Global Chalk Campaign aims to remind everyone why education matters and why it must be a right for every child.

Students were asked to answer, "Why should education be a right for every child, rather than a privilege?"

Political Discussions at General Meetings

At several of our general meetings, our advisor, PACE Chair, and State President spoke about the election as well as current issues at the state level involving public education. During our September 16th meeting, we distributed voter registration materials in order to ensure our members were able to vote.
